Painters Guild Helps Beautify Heartwood House
By Brenda Wheatley and Sheila Hall
Original paintings were gifted to Heartwood House this month to display our island’s artistic talent.
Salt Spring Island Painters Guild collaborated with the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation to create a welcoming environment in three of 18 Heartwood housing units designated for medical personnel, many of whom may visit from distant parts of Canada or other areas of the world. The three units are being leased by Island Health and GoHealth to provide short term housing on Salt Spring.
It’s a win-win for SSIPG to get exposure for their work while acknowledging the medical professionals who serve our community. The donated paintings illustrate stories about our island community. Whether it’s a landscape, a sunset, the beauty of flowers or a boat after a storm, each artwork speaks of Salt Spring’s enchanting beauty and vitality.
Many thanks to participating guild artists Diana Vileita, Don Hodgins, Anne Zeller, Angela Jope, Marian Hargrove, Brenda Wheatley and Elise Ginsburg. Additional thanks to Richard Lawson of Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary Society for the donation of several works by local artists. The Painters Guild appreciates the opportunity to regularly exhibit at the Lady Minto Hospital in the main hallway and the Extended Care Unit.
