Meet our Newest Board Members
We sat down with our three new board members to learn about what makes them tick.

Tell us about your relationship to the island.
My husband’s family has owned our property since 1969. We have been coming here since 1983 and it became our permanent residence 4 years ago. Our kids and grandkids love it here and I imagine it will be passed on to them.
Tell us about your personal/professional background and how it relates to your role at Lady Minto Foundation.
I have had careers in health care and in real estate and have volunteered for the crisis centre, Lions Gate hospital Foundation and Covenant House. I have served on a number of Boards, both for profit and non-profit and believe in giving back to the community I live in.
What is your favourite thing about our community?
I love the rural life on this island and the access to hiking, swimming, racquet sports and golf. Meeting and getting to know people from different walks of life is inevitable and enjoyable.
Where are we likely to find you on a Saturday morning?
On a Saturday morning, you will find me in my garden or hiking up channel ridge. The golf course or tennis court could also call me.

Tell us about your relationship to the island, as well as your background and how it relates to your role at Lady Minto Foundation.
Mary and I moved to Salt Spring from Vancouver some 15 years. I have spent my professional career as a Chartered Accountant, a mediator and an arbitrator. I have recently retired after 11 years as a Trustee with the Islands Trust.
We rapidly immersed ourselves in island life and our wonderful community: Saltspring Sailing Club; Salt Spring Tennis; the Anglican Church; Community Theatre; Lady Minto Hospital Foundation; Islands Trust; Meals on Wheels; Salt Spring Literacy.
In what seemed like no time at all we developed friendships which we value and appreciate enormously. The island offers so much and we are loth to leave it for even short times.
What is your favourite thing about our community?
The island and our home offer our family a haven and an escape from their busy urban lives.
Where are we likely to find you on a Saturday morning?
Definitely on the island: at the market in the summer, on and in the water (also in the summer!); at the tennis courts; hiking in the woods and/or puttering in our garden.
We appreciate so much the wonderful life and community we have found on the island.

I’ve been visiting SSI for 25 yrs since my parents retired here. I ended up here in Lockdown #1 and never left!

I’m a retired Army RN and I feel both parts of that will help me with LMHF. I have worked in my share of dangerous/austere environments which has at least helped me be a team player and herd cats. I have been a Spark, Brownie, Girl Guide, Cub, Soccer and Hockey Mom; my kids say if I can do that, I can do anything! I hope to meet more of you this year.
What is your favourite thing about our community?
I love how engaged our community is—there are an amazing number of societies, teams, small businesses, organizations, charities, recreational activities etc etc. Amazing!
Where are we likely to find you on a Saturday morning?
Walking one of so many trails with my dog.
