Emergency Department construction update:
Spring 2023
Significant progress has been made on Lady Minto’s Emergency Department in the past two months. Construction crews have been hard at work installing windows, doors, and curtain walls, while other tradespeople have been working to install the Variable Air Volume system—a fancy type of HVAC system where the volume of air supplied to different zones is varied based on their temperature and occupancy, reducing energy consumption.
Equipment is being installed in the electrical room for breaker panels, and lighting is being roughed-in. Insulation and strapping have been installed on the East elevation, and water lines and HVAC ducting insulation are currently underway. Cladding has been installed on the North elevation, and sprinkler rough-in is being completed at the waiting room and soffits.
Upcoming inspections include mechanical and electrical reviews of ceiling services, and a roof assembly inspection scheduled for early June. Overall, the Lady Minto Hospital Emergency Department addition is making excellent progress, and we can’t wait to open the doors to this state-of-the-art medical facility to our Salt Spring Island community later this year!
