Lady Minto Hospital has long been a part of life on Salt Spring Island – it opened in its current location in 1958. It is the largest of V.I.H.A.’s rural and remote hospitals with 19 acute care beds and 31 extended care beds. The following acute care services are provided:
24/7 emergency services
Diagnostics:
- Medical Imaging (x-ray and ultrasound)
- Laboratory
Inpatient care:
Basic low acuity inpatient care for medical, mental health and obstetrical needs
Hospital-based palliative care
Ambulatory (non-inpatient) services for endoscopy-based diagnostics
Community-based general practitioners provide the main physician support for patients. They are currently supported by four specialists: 1 Radiologist, 1 General Internist and 2 Psychiatrists
The hospital also features a psychiatric observation room, a pharmacy and a 31 extended care unit. Other services that Lady Minto Hospital offered include nutrition counseling, physiotherapy, cardiac testing (including Holter monitoring, stress tests, electrocardiography), and chemotherapy.
